Sailor Moon R 67: The swimsuit episode

Sailor Moon R episode 67 review

Rei decides to go vacationing on her own private island, but the other girls hear about it from Chibi-Usa and go and find her. It’s then time for the swimsuit episode of Sailor Moon R! After a whole bunch of fanservice, Chibi-Usa decides that she’s going to become the annoying brat that I remember from the first time I watched this show. She goes and gets lost at sea while floating. She ends up inside an erupting volcano and making friends with a dinosaur. Read that last sentence again. I am not exaggerating or making that up. That’s really what happens.

Eventually the Sailor Guardians show up, save Chibi-Usa, save the dinosaurs, stop the volcano from erupting, and everything turns out hunky dory. But man, was it an acid trip to get there. And I can’t say this was a bad episode at all. It just forced you to stretch your limits of plausibility. And Rei is the hottest, by the way, just had to throw that in there.

Sailor Moon R 66: Chef Curry

Sailor Moon R episode 66 review

Chibi-Usa wants Usagi to cook some curry for her. This can’t possibly go wrong. After some of the Sailor Guardians try doing so, and Minako almost cuts off her finger, they go to get ingredients at the market. Monster of the Week shows up, battle ensues, and that’s that.

A pretty dull episode, but Rei’s confident attitude was something we needed from this episode, which is why she wins for this episode.

Sailor Moon R 65: Minako vs. Makoto

Sailor Moon R episode 65 review

In this episode, Minako and Makoto disagree on… something. It doesn’t actually make a whole lot of sense what they’re disagreeing on, but they have a fight with each other. Meanwhile, Chibi-Usa is acting super-annoying, while Usagi is acting as stupid as ever. You can probably guess what happens with Minako and Makoto… they have to work together as Sailor Venus & Jupiter to beat the Monster of the Week.

Too much Chibi-Usa in this episode, which I remember becomes a huge problem with the series down the stretch. She’s annoying, she’s stupid, and she takes up time that could be used to flesh out the other characters. Ugh, just wait till she becomes a Sailor Guardian…

Sailor Moon R 64: Galileo Figaro

Sailor Moon R episode 64 review

Thunderbolts and lightning, very very frightening, all over town as Usagi’s going around. In one of the most dull episodes yet, Chibi-Usa gets lost, Usagi tries to find her, Mamoru continues to act stupid, and the Sailor Failures™ just sit in a cafe and watch. Some funny and touching moments between the Sailor Failures™, but otherwise just a copy-paste Monster of the Week episode.

Due to the rules I’ve set up, Sailor Moon wins best Guardian by default, because she is the only one who transformed in this episode. Thus, she’s going to win a lot more than she deserves.
