Bleach 71: The final frontier

Bleach episode 71 review

The Quincy Uryu allows himself to be captured, because we needed a damsel in distress and it might as well been him this time. They’re taking turns; already Orihime and Chad have volunteered. Then everyone goes around the table talking to Mr. Hat & Clogs, who reveals that the Soul Society is interested in the Bounts because of something to do with space. Yeah, that’s right, space.

In between, Captain Shunsui goes nosing around Captain Mayuri’s stuff, and the two of them clash. I guess this is where Mayuri started to become a sympathetic character. He’s funny in this episode. Now I know why he stuck around. He and Shunsui provide good foils for each other, and the anger of each of them made for a fun moment.

But then Uryu just shows up in the hospital and everything’s all right. He has an army visit him in the hospital, with Ichigo & pals not being enough; we also had to bring around Mr. Hat & Clogs and Tessai. They have no idea what the Bounts are up to. Come to think of it, I have no idea what the Bounts are up to. I totally forget what their ultimate goal is. Maybe to go to the moon? No, that’s Dr. Stone.

Bleach 70: No comment

Bleach episode 70 review

Rukia returns! And with her comes a happy reunion between her and Orihime. It’s so nice to see their friendship; that’s one of the top things in Bleach. Of course, all is not well, because Bounts keep showing up to suck people’s souls out.

We finally meet Jin Kariya, though none of the good guys have yet. Basically, he and his agents speak in word salad form, saying a lot without saying anything at all. Then Ichigo runs into one of the Bounts, and he keeps on answering “no comment” to Ichigo’s questions. Anytime someone says “no comment,” the answer is probably in the affirmative.

Now that the band is back together, this Bount arc may be getting good, or at least good enough for filler.

Bleach 69: Bountiful

Bleach episode 69 review

The knights of the round table all gather around to hear Mr. Hat & Clogs tell them what a Bount is and why they’re dangerous. Then we have the modsouls being put in ridiculous-looking stuffed animals to serve as easy sidekicks to Ichigo & pals.

And then, we have a Bount sighting – two, actually! Chad and Orihime go off trying to find one of them, while Ichigo battles with a woman Bount. He struggles in the fight, which goes to show you that this is clearly a filler arc – Ichigo would never struggle with someone like this for real. So, Ichigo’s in “danger,” so to speak, and at the last moment someone appears – Rukia!

Not a great episode, but not too bad either. The stuffed animal part was pretty funny.

Bleach 68: End transmission

Bleach episode 68 review

So, all’s well that ends well, right? Ichigo and pals get blown into the gate, where they have to fight off the modsouls, including the one who disguises himself as them. They pull it off, and Ichigo sees Urahara’s hat lying around. He then deduces that Mr. Hat & Clogs was behind all the games in the first place and just wanted to mess with him and his pals a little bit.

Meanwhile, Soi Fon helps Yoruichi collect some data for a research project being hosted by Ukitake back in the Soul Society. At the very end of the episode, Yoruichi shows up to tell them all what they’ve got to be concerned about: A Bount. Whatever that means.

Bonus points for the supercute post-credits scene where Soi Fon goes to give chocolates to Yoruichi, who turns into a cat and refuses them. Oh, Soi Fon, you’re so cute when you try to win over Yoruichi!
