Bleach 112: Shinji Ikari

Bleach episode 112 review

Isshin meets with Kisuke, they talk for a while, then Isshin goes away to make sure Ichigo doesn’t find out who he is. Some reveal that was. They’re going to keep secrets, but at least the viewer knows them now.

Then Shinji shows up at Ichigo’s school again, but this time with Orihime. Chizuru goes off on Shinji for touching her precious Orihime, and she’s actually quite hilarious in this episode. Eventually, Ichigo gets into it with Shinji, but there’s no progress made in their relationship.

So, Orihime and Chad hope to get some info out of Shinji, only to be interrupted by Shinji’s pal Hiyori. I can’t remember if I disliked her or if I hated her. In any case, she is standoffish as ever, and very little information is given here, too.

It seems like everyone wants to keep secrets and keep beating around the bush. Look out, guys, because my #1 least favorite character in all of Bleach is coming next episode, and it’s not Yammy!

Best girl of the episode: Chizuru! (She breaks through for her first win!)

Bleach 111: Father’s Day

Bleach episode 111 review

No clue whether there will be a photo on this page when this post is up, but in case there isn’t, it’s supposed to be Kon in Ichigo’s body running away from poison gas Grand Fisher.

So yeah, Uryu’s father is a Quincy and Ichigo’s father is a Soul Reaper. I know it sounds like kind of basic stuff, but I guess it was groundbreaking at the time. In retrospect, it looks like one of those Disney Star Wars things where they somehow manage to make everyone part of the same family tree, and it’s rather dumb. We couldn’t just have Ichigo having special powers, we had to have his Dad have them too. We couldn’t just have Uryu gain back his Quincy powers, we had to have his Dad completely renege on everything he ever said negatively about Quincies.

Honestly, this was quite the boring episode. It was mainly just Isshin pontificating for much of the episode. Is this the part of Bleach where I stopped liking it? Maybe it was. In any case, a huge reveal, but not a huge bit of entertainment.

Best girl of the episode: Ririn (3) (she was really the only female character who got any noticeable screen time this episode)

Bleach 110: Back to boredom

Bleach episode 110 review

I forgot just how many episodes there are of Ichigo being back in class and doing mundane tasks. The Grand Fisher, ho-hum. Give me a real enemy.

But then one shows up in class, a transfer student named Shinji. This guy has great potential, and what was that other thing about him? Oh, that’s right, I hate him. But he and the Visoreds are going to start showing up, I fear, and then these miserable Visoreds will take over the vacant Captain spots.

Hurry up and get me to Hueco Mundo already.

Best girl of the episode: Tatsuki (5) (she had a good amount of time in this episode, including her trademark karate kick of Chizuru)

Bleach 109: Bad Shield United

Bleach episode 109 review

In a bizarre swing of events, Ichigo goes from arguing with Renji to talking to Rukia to suddenly being in his home classroom talking to Keigo who has an oddly-named manga in his hands (and quite possibly a self-insert), to suddenly taking care of wandering spirits along the streets, to back in the Soul Society talking to Captain Ukitake, to leaving the Soul Society, all the while mumbling something about controlling fate. The way the timeline shifted back and forth with no warning was jarring, and not in a good way.

The Bount arc is officially over. As a whole, it wasn’t bad; it certainly wasn’t good, save for the Kenpachi Zaraki and Soi Fon fights which were off the charts. I’ll miss it soon enough. It had its problems – a whole, big lot of problems – but ultimately it entertained me enough to break the record of most consecutive days into a year blogging Bleach. Can I reach the finish line? Only one way to find out… check in tomorrow!
