Bleach 273: The king of the big “WHAT”

Bleach episode 273 review

Marechiyo Omaeda is one of the most useless characters in Bleach. Yet he serves a purpose: to demonstrate to all other characters the power of a good “WHAT.” In this episode, he begs Soi Fon to unleash some sort of bonus ability – “here comes the bonus!” – and she tells him that they’ve been fighting full strength already and that there is no bonus. His response? “WHAAAAAAAAAAAT?” Actually, maybe a few less A’s for that, but still, quite the WHAT.

Meanwhile, Yammy turns from the 10th Espada into the 0th Espada, which makes him the most powerful. You want 3-on-1 battles, you got ’em; Renji, Rukia, and Chad all take him on together and all get pretty much one-shotted. Guess it’s going to be up to Ichigo to defeat him too.

Oh, and Toshiro takes on Harribel and gets pretty much embarrassed. “Tiburon” is the name of the attack, which was also the name of the studio that made Madden NFL & NCAA Football for quite some time. My sister and I always used their logo as our created team’s logo.

Bleach 272: Luke kisses Leia

Bleach episode 272 review

Hollow Ichigo goes berserk, and he attacks Uryu. Hindsight being 20/20, he probably should have killed Uryu so that the Thousand-Year Blood War goes on without him. But whatevs. Orihime cries his way back to normal. No, I’m serious, that’s how he gets back to normal.

Meanwhile, Ulquiorra is doomed, and he tries to say something as he dies. The ONLY (and I mean ONLY) hint of anything UlquiHime is that Orihime stretches out her hand towards him. I realize that all it takes is for two characters to be in the same frame and that constitutes a shipping. But come on, this UlquiHime crap is taken as canon by UlquiHime shippers. UlquiHime is dead, Ulquiorra is dead, and now we move on to the rest of the arc.

Bleach 271: Listen to Your Heart

Bleach episode 271 review

It’s Ichigo vs. Ulquiorra in a battle to the death! And when Ichigo is defeated and left for dead, Orihime’s cries bring him back to life as a full-blown Hollow. Now filled with immense power, Ichigo beats Ulquiorra, my least favorite character perhaps ever. Ulquiorra says something about Ichigo having “heart,” while narrating the entire battle. Not even Uryu got the honor of being battle commentator, even though he was there the whole time.

Hopefully this is the end for Ulquiorra. By the way, I see ABSOLUTELY ZERO evidence of Orihime OR Ulquiorra having ANY feelings for each other from the beginning up until now. So, UlquiHime needs to be put to bed and buried. It’s over, IchiRuki fans. You lost, and your “make up ship” has sunk lower than the Titanic.

Bleach 270: This isn’t even my final form

Bleach episode 270 review

Ichigo fights Ulquiorra, who reveals his Resurreccion, then tells Ichigo that this isn’t even his final form. He has one extra transformation that no one knows about, not even Sosuke Aizen. So, Ulquiorra shows it off to Ichigo, and then to Uryu and Orihime, who have arrived on the scene just in time to become battle commentators. Ulquiorra is about to kill Ichigo as time runs out.

The Ichigo-Ulquiorra fight was nothing special, sadly enough. It was just “watch this!” by Ulquiorra over and over again. I’d much prefer a battle with more strategy involved. But this is Bleach, so one-on-one battles are what we’re gonna get.
