Bleach 221: Soi Fon hates you, too

Bleach episode 221 review

Find someone who’s the opposite of Soi Fon. She shows her total disgust for her own Lieutenant, partially even because he’s loyal to his family. She doesn’t care one bit. She hates him, casts him aside. She’s nasty, she’s brutal, and she’s miserable.

Which means that I absolutely love her.

In non-Soi Fon battling, Rangiku and Toshiro go up against Harribel and her minions. Rangiku gets the minions, Toshiro gets the Espada. Should be some good matchups there. Not too enthused about the Shunsui-Jushiro battle with Starrk. Those two have yet to show any sign that they’re actually worthy of being Captains (aside from withstanding the heat from Old Man Yama). Everything’s picking up here, and this is a rare positive moment for this arc thus far.

Bleach 220: The Lone Wolf

Bleach episode 220 review

What is Sajin Komamura? Is he a fox, a wolf, or a dog? I honestly don’t know. But whatever he is, he’s really getting his moment to shine in this battle against this really hard Arrancar to beat. I’m a big Komamura fan, and I hate what happened to him in TYBW. It was good to see him get his chance to battle.

Also, Rangiku shows up to give me an easy pick for best girl of the episode. Without her, I might have been scratching the bottom of the barrel.

Bleach 219: WHAT Now, Little Man?

Bleach episode 219 review

This episode is all about “69 guy.” Shuhei Hisagi battles his opponent, and we get at least a couple WHATs and maybe one or two that I missed. The WHAT epidemic has spread like a virus, and now everyone is catching it. Also, forgot to mention it last episode. That typical “I refuse to tell you my name” thing is not just annoying, it’s overused. Think Netero in Hunter x Hunter.

Nary a female appeared in this episode, but thankfully Rukia shows up in the post-credits sequence to provide us with our best girl.

Bleach 218: Good Charlotte

Bleach episode 218 review

So, Yumichika kills off Charlotte, after a long and complicated reasoning that included what color his zanpakuto liked best. Meanwhile, Shuhei Hisagi, the “69 guy” who has no other distinguishing features, fights an opponent that can raise his power levels at will. How original. Ikkaku and Izuru also battle opponents on their level.

And one can’t help but wonder why any of this matters. These are all Lieutenants fighting Fracciones. There’s no real stakes here. The actual battles haven’t begun yet. This is just a way of showing off these Lieutenants and giving them something to do. It’s actually quite boring.

Best girl of the episode: Rukia (43) (because of the post-credits scene)
