Bleach 225: Wednesday Campanella

Bleach episode 225 review

It’s Wednesday, and the bell is ringing on this matchup. It’s Harribel’s pals going up against Rangiku, Momo, Shuhei, Izuru, Iba, and a partridge in a pear tree. Again, Apacci remains the most entertaining character, but the other two aren’t bad as well. This episode had a lot of good action and great dialogue. And we’re not necessarily going all-out with the one-on-one battling. There’s at least a little bit of people teaming up with each other, which is a nice relief.

Rangiku needs to get healed by Izuru, who still has some skills back from his time with Squad 4. He also SAVES Momo, while Shuhei and Iba go and get involved in the battle. I’ll be pulling for Apacci, but I am not very optimistic about her chances.

Bleach 224: Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

Bleach episode 224 review

We move on from Soi Fon to some other battles, and boy are these a lot of fun! You’ve got Rangiku going up against Harribel’s gal pals. I’ve started to like Emilou Apacci, because she reminds me so much of Loly Aivirrne. She was the star of this episode.

Meanwhile, Momo shows up, and Rangiku questions her loyalty because she let the word “Captain” slip out when talking about Aizen. Give her a break, Rangiku! Oh, and Toshiro’s battling Harribel, and Shunsui’s up against Starrk while Ukitake’s going up against Lilynette. This is some fast-paced action, and with Rangiku and Momo, it’s three-against-two instead of one-on-one battles… well, at least, it was for a few minutes. I’ll let it slide. This is the most fun Bleach has been in a long time, and much of the credit falls at the feet of Apacci.

Bleach 223: Soi Fon’s about kicking ass, about taking names

Bleach episode 223 review

…and we’re about making games!

Soi Fon was never in trouble in the first place! She faked it just so she could gauge how strong a Resurreccion is. It’s brilliant, and it pays off when she kills off her opponent within a couple of seconds. That’s what you get for waking up as Vega.

Meanwhile, Omaeda continues to be an actual fool, and I’ve now given up on him and Soi Fon as a couple. Sorry, my Soi Fon deserves better. She’ll never get Yoruichi – I ship Yoruhara – but there has to be some other ship that Soi Fon could get. Soi Fon proved herself to be a complete badass and stronger than most of the other Captains in the Soul Society. I can’t believe there are people who don’t like her. Seriously? She’s a pillar of strength and as cool as a cucumber. She’s the best, in my opinion, at least as a character (obviously we know Kenpachi Zaraki and Byakuya are stronger, and we know that Old Man Yama is an imbecile). Speaking of which, I collected a Yamamoto figure this weekend. It only cost $15.

Bleach 222: Elephant Room 2

Bleach episode 222 review

So, Soi Fon takes on her opponent, while her Lieutenant Marechiyo Omaeda takes on a guy dressed up like an elephant. This leads to a fight where all Omaeda and the elephant talk about is how fat each other is and about Omaeda’s wealth. It’s a pretty annoying argument, just like the one between Yumichika and Charlotte about which one of them was ugly. But at least Omaeda is getting some screen time.

Meanwhile, Soi Fon goes after someone who refuses to tell his name for much of the episode, and they go at it, with Soi Fon starting out with the initiative, but later getting schooled by her opponent. We’ll see where this one lands, but right now, Soi Fon is not backing up her rank as Captain. Of course, even Ichigo can be beat by a random Hollow if the plot calls for it, so I’m not losing any respect for Soi Fon. I just want to see her win, because there’s no more badass woman in this show than her.
