Bleach 74: 96

Bleach episode 74 review

Everyone’s looking for Uryu, while Yachiru is entertaining the masses at Squad 11. It turns out, Uryu was saved by Yoshino, a Bount who wants to stop Jin Kariya (the Ultimate Bount) from getting into Hueco Mundo and gaining unlimited power. So, Uryu kind of sort of maybe perhaps decides to help her out.

The tomfoolery at Squad 11 was the only thing that could offset the large amount of exposition we had between Yoshino and Uryu. I was dozing off as Yoshino went on and on and on. Also, Ichigo was wearing a shirt with the number “96” on it. What’s up with that? What does that even mean?

Bleach 73: The Water Bros.

Bleach episode 73 review

So, the water guys (who I refer to as the Water Bros.) continue their attacks on Ichigo & pals. And Ichigo becomes more and more helpless by the minute, until finally gaining the upper hand in the battle. Once you hear “Number One,” it’s good news for Ichigo, unless Aizen is present.

Honestly, this might have been the most boring episode so far. The best part of it was Hanataro and Ganju meeting Ichigo and rekindling their friendship. It’ll only be a matter of time until Ichigo is taking his anger out on Ganju, instead of Renji or Rukia or Uryu. (Note: he never takes his anger out on Orihime. IchiHime FTW!)

Bleach 72: You can’t run away from water

Bleach episode 72 review

Ichigo and Rukia get into a pointless argument, and then sit in silence as a faucet keeps dripping away. Angered by the noise, Rukia goes to fix the faucet, only to find water pouring more and more. Soon enough, the sink is overflowing. Then the water takes on a life of its own and tries to drown Uryu and Chad. Ichigo’s plan for fighting the water? Run away!

Obviously, the water is being controlled by Bounts, but I think it’s a little funny that Ichigo is running away like this. It’s clearly non-canon Ichigo who is quite the coward. Soon enough, the gang make it out of the hospital after all their running away, only to find out: it’s raining.

Not the best episode, exactly. Some good humor, but Ichigo constantly running away from poison gas, or water, isn’t exactly the most interesting plotline.

Bleach 71: The final frontier

Bleach episode 71 review

The Quincy Uryu allows himself to be captured, because we needed a damsel in distress and it might as well been him this time. They’re taking turns; already Orihime and Chad have volunteered. Then everyone goes around the table talking to Mr. Hat & Clogs, who reveals that the Soul Society is interested in the Bounts because of something to do with space. Yeah, that’s right, space.

In between, Captain Shunsui goes nosing around Captain Mayuri’s stuff, and the two of them clash. I guess this is where Mayuri started to become a sympathetic character. He’s funny in this episode. Now I know why he stuck around. He and Shunsui provide good foils for each other, and the anger of each of them made for a fun moment.

But then Uryu just shows up in the hospital and everything’s all right. He has an army visit him in the hospital, with Ichigo & pals not being enough; we also had to bring around Mr. Hat & Clogs and Tessai. They have no idea what the Bounts are up to. Come to think of it, I have no idea what the Bounts are up to. I totally forget what their ultimate goal is. Maybe to go to the moon? No, that’s Dr. Stone.
