Bleach 287: Magic Carpet Ride

Bleach episode 287 review

You don’t know what we can find… Ichigo reborn in the land of Aladdin and the magic lamp? While that sounds ridiculous, that’s underselling it. This one is wild. A filler episode to end all filler. Ichigo keeps getting reminded that he’s in a dream, while the story of Bleach is retold in Arabian Nights fashion.

There were several laugh-out-loud moments in this episode, which is big because I just don’t laugh unless something is really funny. So kudos to Bleach on producing a filler episode that even I can enjoy. Bonus points for the final segment, which makes this entire episode work. This wasn’t Ichigo’s dream at all! Even though he and others kept breaking the fourth wall to the point that my screen was smashed, telling us over and over again that this was Ichigo’s dream, this was actually all the dream of… Isane Kotetsu??? Way to pick a random character to wrap everything up. What an episode. All filler episodes should dream of being as funny as this one.

Bleach 286: Double Up

Bleach episode 286 review

Ichigo gets the squeeze from Yammy, after he had rescued Rukia from the same thing. But suddenly a double-trouble duo of Byakuya and Kenpachi show up to SAVE Ichigo. And now of course they’re fighting over who gets to fight the fight against Yammy. Then Mayuri and Unohana show up and make it clear to Ichigo that the fight against Yammy is not his fight, and that he’s got no choice but to go to the world of the living so he can SAVE Hiyori. Ugh. (By the way, Ichigo can’t even do that; only Orihime can heal her.)

Not much to say about this episode because much of it was just people yelling at Ichigo. Everyone wants him to get to the world of the living as soon as possible because the plot demands it. Oh well, at least we don’t have to worry about fill- oh, you mean to tell me there may be filler upcoming? Crap.

Bleach 285: Thank you Gin!

Bleach episode 285 review

With one swing, Gin Ichimaru does what the writers of Bleach had not been able to do – shut up Hiyori. I was so pumped when I saw the blood flying from her body. I thought Aizen had done it to her, but instead it was Gin. So, thank you so much Gin, for completely incapacitating Hiyori and ending her run of annoyingness. I just wish you had finished the job and completely killed her. Instead, you left her alive with Shinji, who now cries out for Ichigo instead of Orihime, the one who can actually heal her.

Ichigo leaves Orihime and Uryu, which means that even if Ichigo shows up, Hiyori’s not going to get healed. You kind of sort of need a healing character for that. But whatevs. Rukia, Renji, and Chad get curbstomped fighting Yammy, so it’s going to be up to Ichigo to stop him. Good. Hopefully he and more importantly Orihime get delayed long enough that Hiyori dies before she gets there.

I’m not even giving Hiyori best girl for even one episode. She will go down in Bleach history as my most hated character.

Best girl of the episode: Mashiro (1) (even though I don’t like her either)

Bleach 284: Flashback Freaky Friday

Bleach episode 284 review

1.90.5-2RDPRCBJUV4S2PDS6TFZMEB7GI.0.1-3

We’ve got to get through these battles so we can get to the big ones. Here, it’s just Aizen choosing to kill Harribel because she was too weak, when in reality she’s actually the strongest Espada left in the World of the Living. Why would Aizen kill the one person who is actually doing her job? Yeah, I get it, he’s pure evil, blah blah blah. Still not buying it. Even if he’s evil, he needs to have some sort of intelligence.

In any case, Harribel has a big long depressing flashback, and then she gets beaten by Aizen. A lot of good that flashback did. I never liked these flashbacks at the end of characters’ lives, because they live for about 10 seconds after the flashback finishes. This is like Survivor: Gabon’s Kenny: virtually useless in this challenge, or rather, in this flashback.
