Rowing

Is there anything better than turning on your TV at 4:00 am on that first Saturday morning and watching the first rowing races of the Olympics get underway? Rowing will probably get a bigger spotlight on it thanks to The Boys in the Boat. Hopefully these rowers get more recognized for all of their hard work in what must be one of the most tiring sports.

Shooting

“Shoot her! Shoot her!” That’s the first thing I think of when I think about shooting at the Olympics – Jurassic Park. I have to say, though, that this sport intrigues me. Not that I have ever shot a gun, but because it takes so much skill, like archery. You have to be ultra-accurate and you’ve got to be near-perfect. If it’s as much fun as it is in the London 2012 video game, then this sport is worth watching.

Boxing

Fortunes have frowned on boxing in recent years, and we aren’t even sure if it’s going to be back in LA in 2028. To me, I always loved watching CNBC at 5 pm ET and listening to Teddy Atlas break down the fights. Once they stopped featuring him, I lost interest. I would love to see boxing regain a place of prominence in the Games. At the moment, though, it’s in limbo, and that’s a real shame.

Breaking

Breakdancing is an Olympic… sport? Wow. I guess if gymnastics and synchronized swimming are in the Games, then why can’t breaking be in them too? It definitely requires a lot of athletic skill, that’s for sure. Let’s not get into the comparison category, i.e., who’s better, an archer or a breaker. Instead, let’s try to figure out who’s gonna win these medals, which (if won by the USA or China) could prove decisive in the medal race.
