Toonami Roundup: 6/10/17

toonami-2016

This week… in… Toonami…

Dragon Ball Super episode 21: Skipped it. The only reason I watch Dragon Ball is for the podcast; there’s no redeeming value of it for me.

Dragon Ball Z Kai episode 120: Vegeta gets controlled, and now we’re going to get that hyped Goku-Vegeta match we’ve always wanted. Rating: **

Attack on Titan episode 32: Eren’s learned a lot about fighting from Annie, apparently, as he takes on the other traitor Titans. Hange is great as always, and Mikasa is useless as ever. Why wasn’t the first season this good? Rating: ***1/2

Tokyo Ghoul episode 10: Kaneki is kidnapped, and I couldn’t give a crap. Rating: *

Hunter x Hunter episode 54: We’re running out of good episodes of Hunter x Hunter. The show’s about to take a nosedive once this arc officially ends. Rating: ***1/2

Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn episode 22: It’s over! It’s all over! What a relief. Rating: *

Naruto Shippuden episode 160: Naruto’s still too busy training, so we have to let the minor characters have some screen time, as they hope to put up somewhat of a fight against Pain. Rating: **1/2

Ghost in the Shell episode 15: Another typical episode; not great, just mediocre. Rating: **

Best show of the week: Attack on Titan

Most surprisingly good show of the week: Attack on Titan

Most disappointing show of the week: Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn

Toonami Roundup: 6/3/17

toonami-2016

This week… in Toonami…

Dragon Ball Super episode 20: Beerus wakes up and sneezes away a moon. Meanwhile, Frieza treats those who brought him back like trash, and the Frieza scene is almost scene-for-scene the same as a future episode of Hunter x Hunter. Rating (out of four stars): **1/2

Dragon Ball Super episode 119: Android 18 throws the match by bribing Mr. Satan, so Mr. Satan is still the undisputed World Martial Arts champion! Oh, and some crap with Gohan. Rating: **1/2

Attack on Titan episode 31: Bertholdt and Reiner are Titans too?! For crying out loud, the entire cast is going to be Titans soon enough! Seriously speaking, it was a great episode, if a bit on the predictable side. And now I can finally remember Bertholdt and Reiner’s name. Rating: ***1/2

Tokyo Ghoul episode 9: Cancel it. Rating: 1/2

Hunter x Hunter episode 53: While the Phantom Troupe goes about doing their evil business, Kurapika sees all their (fake) dead bodies. With nothing left to live for, he goes into a dark place. This episode proves you don’t need action to be great. Instead, it pulls on your heartstrings as you feel for a now-broken Kurapika. Rating: ****

Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn episode 21: One episode left! Yes! Rating: *

Naruto Shippuden episode 159: Naruto is still training (yawn), while others try to figure out the mystery of Pain. Pain is obviously pretty much unstoppable at this point, and the question is, who is Pain? Rating: **1/2

Ghost in the Shell episode 14: Apparently wine is the new currency of Ghost in the Shell. Any word on whether it’s worth more than dogecoin? Rating: **1/2

Best show of the week: Hunter x Hunter

Most surprisingly good show of the week: Attack on Titan

Most disappointing show of the week: Tokyo Ghoul

Toonami Roundup: 3/22/17

toonami-2016

This week in… Toonami…

Dragon Ball Super episode 15: Mr. Satan steals the show with his usual antics. There might be something to be said about the fact that this show has made “Satan” the “savior of the universe,” but I’ll ignore that fact for now and just have a few laughs. Rating: ***

Dragon Ball Z Kai episode 114?: I’m not sure about the episode number, but I am sure that this was about as boring of an episode as you can get. Rating: 1/2

Attack on Titan episode 26: In a surprise, Attack on Titan actually came out swinging with a solid episode. No word on whether this will remain the case, but at least this one wasn’t so bad. Rating: **1/2

Hunter x Hunter episode 48: What a letdown. After the best episode of the series, this one ends up boring me to death with its inane plot of Gon and Killua selling antiques. Rating: *

Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn episode 16: Yawn. Rating: no stars

Naruto Shippuden episode 154: A training episode, though a fun one. The Whack-A-Mole game and Naruto turning into a frog actually made this one very funny and enjoyable. Rating: ***

Ghost in the Shell episode 12: The first half of this episode was great, and very enjoyable to watch. The second half was completely unwatchable. Unfortunately, Ghost in the Shell has leaned more toward that second half than the first half. Rating: **

Best episode of the week: Dragon Ball Super (you can find this out faster by listening to our podcast!)

Most surprisingly good show of the week: Dragon Ball Super, also

Most disappointing show of the week: Hunter x Hunter

Toonami Roundup: 3/25/17

toonami-2016

This week, in Toonami:

Dragon Ball Super episode 12: Goku and Beerus fight. The shockwaves from their fight are enough to destroy the universe, except they don’t. The fight has been padded out for so long, we may not see the end of it this year. Rating: **

Dragon Ball Z Kai episode 110: This episode consisted simply of Piccolo (aka Ma Junior) standing around in complete fear for half an hour. Piccolo gives up on his match, right after Krillin dispatches of his first-round opponent. Piccolo cowering in fear? Actually not that surprising, given how useless he is Dragon Ball Super and in the Cell Games. Rating: **

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure episode 22: Chariot race! Jojo and Wamuu go at it in the best Jojo battle yet. Shooting cannonballs with giant crossbows makes for great television. And Wamuu is getting completely destroyed, yet still seems to have the upper hand on Jojo. Great battle. Rating: ***

Tokyo Ghoul episode 1: Gross-out. Rating: *1/2

Hunter x Hunter episode 44: Uvogin completely destroys the Shadow Beasts, embarrassing the Mafia big-time, but then Kurapika proves his superior power by chaining him up and bringing him along with him in the car. Then comes a hilarious scene where Kurapika is looking backwards, threatening Uvogin, while driving at the same time. Distracted drivers are dangerous, people! Rating: ***1/2

Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn episode 12: The best episode of Unicorn ever! I actually understood what was going on. Banagher tries to reason with his rival, but she will have none of it. And what turned into a Shinji vs. Kaworu turns into a sad ending, as the girl gets killed. Then a black Unicorn Gundam shows up, and the credits roll. Rating: ***

Naruto Shippuden episode 151: Hotaru’s villainous captor ends up losing, and she finally gets to have her master be her mentor. But wait! The Akatsuki show up out of literally nowhere and kill him, and he turned out to have the Six-Tails inside him. So it’s a bittersweet symphony, this ending to the filler. Rating: **1/2

Ghost in the Shell (one of the seasons) episode 8: Kusanagi tracks down someone who’s stealing organs. The plot description is pretty boring, but the actual show is pretty fun. Rating: **1/2

Best show of the week: Hunter x Hunter

Most surprisingly good show of the week: Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn

Most disappointing show of the week: Tokyo Ghoul
