Jojo DiU 1: First by a hair

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable episode 1 review

Jojo Part 4

I know the world is waiting to hear what I thought of the beginning of Part 4 of Jojo.

I loved it.

Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t perfect, but it was pretty well close to perfect. This is exactly how you start an arc. While I didn’t get many of the characters’ names, mainly due to them being too long to remember, I liked the way the characters were introduced and in such a short time already given development. You’re going to have to tell me the names so I don’t get spoiled googling them.

Let’s get this straight: the new Jojo is Josuke. He is Jotaro’s uncle, despite being so much younger than him. And he has a particular hairstyle that he defends with a passion. Basically this episode introduces Josuke and his pipsqueak friend to us, as well as laying out a new villain who has cheated death. Jotaro shows up to tell Josuke what’s up, and then the two get into it when Jotaro says something about Josuke’s hair.

I will say one negative thing about this episode, and that’s about the hair recurring joke. It got old by the end of the episode, and made the result of the crime at the end so obvious that you didn’t need any spoilers to figure out what was about to happen. Basically, a criminal takes a woman hostage, and he’s about to kill her, except that he randomly insults Josuke’s hair, and that causes Josuke to go off and save her. It was way too predictable.

That being said, I absolutely loved this episode. If this is Jojo Part 4, complete with a Jotaro who actually does something, sign me up! Attack on Titan Part 3 may be a bust (like Parts 1 and 2), but Jojo is starting to turn into a well-oiled machine. Despite its flaws, it’s always entertaining. And you can’t ask for much more than that!

Character of the episode: Jotaro

Can you believe that Jotaro is actually doing something now?
