Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders episode 42 review
The exciting battle with D’Arby has an underwhelming finish. To borrow the baseball terminology, the ball was teed up for a hilarious ending. What should have happened was that Jotaro was telling the truth the whole time, but going along with his incompetence with video games, he was hitting the wrong button by accident. So even though he was telling the truth that he wanted to throw a fastball, he was accidentally hitting the forkball button. That would have been so funny that I would have automatically given the episode 4 stars.
But it wasn’t that funny. It turns out that Joseph accidentally put his Stand around Jotaro’s controller. A sort of deus ex machina, if you will. It would have been in character if Jotaro didn’t know what he was doing, but for Joseph to just “accidentally” defeat D’Arby screams of a desperate writer who painted himself into a corner. Sorry, but for once I think I could have done better.
As for the rest of the episode, Dio sends out yet another Monster of the Week. This time it’s got Avdol’s arms. And it looks like we’re back to Polnareff’s Bizarre Adventure again.
