E21 81-82: Drafting a kicker

Eyeshield 21 episodes 81-82 review

E21 82

Episode 81 is completely irrelevant because it’s a flashback episode for the opposing team’s players which, as has been seen, ends up being pretty meaningless in the long run. Episode 82, however, is important because it’s the big moment: Musashi finally, at long last, decides to go back to the team, but not before basically having to be begged to do so by his dad and a bunch of others.

What the anime fails to tell us is that kickers in football are both incredibly important and also incredibly irrelevant. How is this so? Well, for the most part, if you’re the better team, your kicker is only going to get on the field to kick a bunch of extra points and maybe a couple of short field goals. But if it’s a close game, you definitely need your kicker to make those long clutch kicks and the new extra points in the NFL. So the anime is incorrect showing the entire team acting like they’re losing because they don’t have a kicker. No, they’re losing because Sena turned the ball over, and because they don’t have a good defense. But a kicker is important to kick a last-second field goal, which is something the anime gets right.

In any case, I can’t wait to see what Musashi brings to the table.

Jojo SC 34: Pennies on the dollar

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders episode 34 review

Jojo SC 34

This week, we’ve got a new Stand named Darby who likes to gamble. In an entertaining scene between him and Joseph, the two make a bet on who can put pennies into an already-full glass of beer without making it spill. This after Polnareff lost a bet and now lost his soul. After Polnareff’s stupid decision, Darby out-cheats Joseph in order to steal his soul too.

Now we’re left with Avdol and Jotaro, and one of them must figure out how to beat Darby or else the souls are lost. My money’s on Avdol because he hasn’t done anything yet in this entire series. Come to think of it, neither has Jotaro, but I’m sure Jotaro’s going to be the hero fighting Dio. Right? Right???

Character of the episode: Joseph
