2018 Anime Bracket – EVA & HARUHI Regions, 2nd Round

Anime Bracket First & Second Rounds

I’m running way behind on this Anime Bracket! Time to get this thing moving!

EVA Region

#1 Rei Ayanami (Evangelion) vs. #8 Rio Takeuchi (Spiral)

I may have picked Rio to win on any other day, but today just happens to be Rei Ayanami’s birthday! Oh, and it’s my dog Lilo’s birthday, too. So I’m going with Rei to keep the chalk moving.

Winner: Rei

#5 Satsuki Kiryuin (Kill la Kill) vs. #13 Duck (Princess Tutu)

While Duck is an adorable yet impressive star of her show, she is no match for the mighty Satsuki Kiryuin. Satsuki looks down at me from her perch amongst my anime figures, demanding that she goes back to the Sweet Sixteen.

Winner: Satsuki

#3 Kuniko Hojo (Shangri-La) vs. #6 Leafa (Sword Art Online)

Here’s a shocker, for a region that has four former champions residing in it. The defending champion is not going to reach the Sweet Sixteen this year. It’s all because I got to play as Leafa in Sword Art Online: Lost Song. As a result, Leafa flies on.

Winner: Leafa

#2 Ryoko Hakubi (Tenchi Muyo) vs. #10 Victor Nikiforov (Yuri on Ice)

A bit of recency bias here… I just saw Yuri on Ice a month and a half ago. As a result, Victor and all his charm is moving on to the Sweet Sixteen to face the formidable Leafa. Sorry, Ryoko, not this year for you, despite winning it all half a decade ago.

Winner: Victor

#1 Haruhi Suzumiya (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya) vs. #9 Kuroneko (Oreimo)

No chance that I’m picking against Haruhi this early in the tournament. Kuroneko is cute, and she has figures, and she even has a manga… but she’s not Haruhi Suzumiya.

Winner: Haruhi

#4 Kaname Chidori (Full Metal Panic) vs. #5 Rin Tohsaka (Fate/stay night)

My love for Tohsaka helped save Fate from an inglorious fate, and Tohsaka’s fate is to continue on into the Sweet Sixteen. Sorry, Kaname, it looks like the new Full Metal Panic season starts just a bit too late for you this year.

Winner: Tohsaka

#3 Kurapika (Hunter x Hunter) vs. #11 Utena Tenjou (Revolutionary Girl Utena)

I keep thinking that Kurapika won this thing last year. He didn’t. Instead, he’s on a revenge mission. Sounds familiar, doesn’t it? And before his eyes can turn scarlet, he knocks out Utena.

Winner: Kurapika

#2 May Chang (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood) vs. #10 Hinako (Sister Princess)

In the cutest matchup of all time, it’s May vs. Hinako. Who to pick of these uber-cute characters? Recency bias again wins. Hinako is the one I’ve seen more recently, therefore she ekes by May in a close battle. Call it overitme.

Winner: Hinako

See you tomorrow for the conclusion of the second round!
