2018 Anime Bracket – HARUHI Region, 1st Round

Anime Bracket First & Second Rounds

Time to continue this first round!

#1 Haruhi Suzumiya (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya) vs. #16 Abel (Trinity Blood)

I’ve loved Haruhi for so long that it seems like I’m just wasting your time in explaining why she should win. Instead, I’ll tell you why Abel should lose – there is nothing about him that is worth remembering. He was just a bland character. He had his moments, but overall, Trinity Blood was a big disappointment for me.

Winner: Haruhi

#8 Mio Akiyama (K-On) vs. #9 Kuroneko (Oreimo)

Very hard one to call here. I mean, very hard. I’m seriously splitting hairs between these two. That’s the beauty of the #8/#9 matchup, it’s such a tight race. I love both of these characters a lot. I think what gives Kuroneko the edge is that she has her own manga. That’s just enough to push her past a very lovable Mio.

Winner: Kuroneko

#5 Rin Tohsaka (Fate/stay night) vs. #12 Ran-Mao (Black Butler)

Okay, so this one’s kind of a joke. Ran-Mao is great eye candy, but she never speaks, or at least only will only say a few syllables. Tohsaka is the reason I got into Fate after it looked like I was going to hate Fate. Instead, I ended up enjoying Fate quite a bit, and I look forward to seeing some of the other versions of it – but only if they contain Tohsaka.

Winner: Tohsaka

#4 Kaname Chidori (Full Metal Panic) vs. #13 Joseph Joestar (Jojo)

Just in time to rescue her from a horrid fate, Kaname and the Full Metal Panic crew are returning for a fourth season! Joseph is definitely a funny character, a guy who has potential in the future in this bracket, but Kaname still is one of my favorites, and she wins yet again.

Winner: Kaname

#6 Hinata Hyuga (Naruto) vs. #11 Utena Tenjou (Revolutionary Girl Utena)

We saw Hinata’s confession a few months ago, and I also watched Utena some time ago, not really liking it. But Utena’s definitely the better character. Hinata was one of my first loves, but she’s in the past now. Utena is the girl of revolution, and her revolution is pulling out a first-round upset.

Winner: Utena

#3 Kurapika (Hunter x Hunter) vs. #14 Hiyori Moritani (Kotoura-san)

Moritani is a bit character from a bit anime – Kotoura-san, which you’ve probably never heard of (but should definitely see!). Kurapika has gotten the shaft since that awful Greed Island arc, but that doesn’t take away all that he did in that awesome Yorknew City arc. Kurapika also has an ace in the hole – the new Hunter x Hunter movie. Just wait until I see that.

Winner: Kurapika

#7 Loly Aivirrne (Bleach) vs. #10 Hinako (Sister Princess)

If you’ve been following this blog at all, you should probably have figured out that I was going with Hinako here. She was just so cute in Sister Princess. So adorable, so wonderful. The way she typed on a calculator hoping to send an e-mail to her dear Bro-Bro was enough to melt your heart. Loly… well, Bleach is in the past, isn’t it?

Winner: Hinako

#2 May Chang (FMA: Brotherhood) vs. #15 Bulma (Dragon Ball)

Bulma moved up from a #16 to a #15 this year, giving her a legitimate chance at pulling off an upset. I’d even say that in this match, she had the lead at halftime, before giving it away to the uber-cute May Chang. May goes on to face Hinako in a battle of the supercutes.

Winner: May

That’s all for this region, stay tuned for the next region tomorrow!
