Hunter x Hunter episode 81 review
As Hunter x Hunter continues to go further and further off the rails, the Chimera Ants (which should not be called the Chyyyy-mera Ants as they are called in the dub) begin to have a bigger role while actual Hunters are getting less of a role. Peggy is the “ant” that looks like a penguin and talks very similar to the narrator of the show (hint, hint). (He also sounds a lot like the one guy from Lupin III who says everything has a 100% chance of happening, but apparently that’s just a coincidence.) Peggy is the voice of reason, while the other ants start getting more selfish.
And this means that the ants start thinking of themselves rather than thinking about the queen. Now they just want to please themselves and not worry about feeding the queen more and more. It’s a lot like the Tachikomas in Ghost in the Shell. Those things got a mind of their own, and as a result, they had to be shut down.
Also, Gon and Killua get their first taste at fighting an ant. Since their abilities are so boring, the battle isn’t that much to speak of. That’s the problem with these two: while they’re great characters, they don’t really (yet) have a cool way of fighting. Fortunately, there’s still a lot of time for them to learn how!
