Attack on Titan episode 33 review
Kevin: Did anyone order me a plain cheese?
Buzz: Yeah, we did. But if you want any, somebody’s gonna have to barf it all up, ’cause it’s gone.
The lasting image of this episode is the direct rip out of Home Alone, nearly word-for-word. You know the scene: Kevin wants a plain cheese pizza, but there’s none left. So when he confronts his big brother Buzz on it, Buzz tells him someone will have to vomit it out, then proceeds to pretend to vomit. Kevin then attacks Buzz, and all heck breaks loose.
The exact same scenario happens in this episode. I’m not sure if Home Alone is a big thing in Japan or what, but there was no way to separate this episode from that scene in my mind. In any case, it’s a flashback that was completely unnecessary and just wasted time.
In fact, this whole episode was a waste of time. To paraphrase my co-host of Toonami Therapy, Michael, “not much happened.” Unfortunately this episode was just a bunch of Mikasa yelling “Eren!” and Armin angsting, while everyone else tries to come up with a plan to rescue Eren and Ymir from Reiner and Bertholdt. A small blemish on what has been a great second season.
