LS 15-16: The Melancholy of Konata Izumi

Lucky Star episodes 15-16 review

LS 16

Let’s talk about something more pleasant, shall we? Episode 15 was okay, but Episode 16 was what I had been waiting for the last 7 years. It was Konata Izumi as Haruhi Suzumiya, and all the Haruhi jokes you could ever want. If you don’t know Haruhi, you’re not going to get any of these jokes, but since I do, they were awesome. I loved all the Haruhi references, which ranged from Haruhi to Kyon to Nagato to Mikuru to the songs from the series. So much win in this episode.

Toonami Roundup: 6/10/17

toonami-2016

This week… in… Toonami…

Dragon Ball Super episode 21: Skipped it. The only reason I watch Dragon Ball is for the podcast; there’s no redeeming value of it for me.

Dragon Ball Z Kai episode 120: Vegeta gets controlled, and now we’re going to get that hyped Goku-Vegeta match we’ve always wanted. Rating: **

Attack on Titan episode 32: Eren’s learned a lot about fighting from Annie, apparently, as he takes on the other traitor Titans. Hange is great as always, and Mikasa is useless as ever. Why wasn’t the first season this good? Rating: ***1/2

Tokyo Ghoul episode 10: Kaneki is kidnapped, and I couldn’t give a crap. Rating: *

Hunter x Hunter episode 54: We’re running out of good episodes of Hunter x Hunter. The show’s about to take a nosedive once this arc officially ends. Rating: ***1/2

Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn episode 22: It’s over! It’s all over! What a relief. Rating: *

Naruto Shippuden episode 160: Naruto’s still too busy training, so we have to let the minor characters have some screen time, as they hope to put up somewhat of a fight against Pain. Rating: **1/2

Ghost in the Shell episode 15: Another typical episode; not great, just mediocre. Rating: **

Best show of the week: Attack on Titan

Most surprisingly good show of the week: Attack on Titan

Most disappointing show of the week: Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn

LS 11-12: Cosplay

Lucky Star episodes 11-12 review

LS 12

Lucky Star is hard to review because there’s no coherent plot, there’s just random humorous scenes thrown together. So I’ll just tell you that I enjoyed these two episodes a lot more than what I had been getting. The anime convention episode 12 was especially a treat. It even had some references to Haruhi Suzumiya thrown in there! Both were quite funny, especially Akira finally being shut up in Lucky Channel on episode 12. This was a step in the right direction for the series.

BB 11-12: London Bridge is falling down

Black Butler episodes 11-12 review

BB 12

Something I’ve noticed with Black Butler: you can’t watch this series in a room with a light on. The animation is so dark, that any reflection of light off the TV screen will make it nearly impossible for you to make out what’s going on. Unfortunately, I’m also super-lazy, so that means that I refused to get up to turn off the light, and thus squinted at the screen for an hour trying to make out the scenes.

In episode 11, Elizabeth (Ciel’s betrothed) goes and gets herself captured, and Ciel and Sebastian have to go and try to save her. Along the way, they run into Grell, the ridiculous stereotype of a character. Then, in episode 12, a puppet master uses Elizabeth to attack Ciel, but Sebastian stops the attacks and frees Elizabeth.

There is so much mystery going on here: what is Sebastian, what is Grell, what is Sebastian’s goal, what is Ciel’s goal, what is Grell’s goal, who even is the good guy in this series? That’s what makes me want to come back for more in Black Butler, even if the plotlines aren’t blowing me away.
