Toonami Roundup: 4/29/17

toonami-2016

A very strange week… in Toonami…

Dragon Ball Super episode 16: Vegeta wants Whis to train him. As boring as that sounds, there’s probably a ton of ways to say Whis’s name, not to mention the many ways I pronounce Vegeta’s name. I like calling him “Fajita.” Rating: *

Dragon Ball Z Kai episode 115: The World Martial Arts Tournament was a ton of fun, so of course Dragon Ball had to leave that behind for another super-boring battle to save our Planet Earth. You show the lights that stop Krillin and Piccolo turn to stone… and Piccolo has become THE most useless “damsel in distress” character in all of Dragon Ball. He’s no Super Namekian, he’s utterly useless. Hard to believe that people once feared this guy. Rating: **

Attack on Titan episode 27: Potato Girl! You know, I didn’t think about this the first time I watched this, but maybe the makers of Attack on Titan realized how popular Potato Girl was and decided for a “fanservice” of sorts, to pander to what we, the fans, wanted to see, which was more Potato Girl. But I’m going to give them a pass this time around. The episode was too good for me to criticize. If Attack on Titan was this good all the time, I’d be singing a different tune about it. Rating: ***1/2

Hunter x Hunter episode 49: Gon and Killua try to catch the Phantom Troupe, but end up being caught themselves. Killua at one time was a great assassin, but I guess by becoming “good” he gave up all his skills and became just average. Just wait until you see how useless Killua becomes in the arcs to come. He’s the first shounen character to go from overpowered to weak. Ignoring all that, this was a great episode. Rating: ***1/2

Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn episode 17: Do we really have to go through with the rest of this? Rating: *

Naruto Shippuden episode 155: Can you hear the froggy song, yes I hear the froggy song! Everybody look Gamakichi is singing, hear his noble song! Naruto has to do training, and most of this training makes little sense, but I guess balancing your body must be the secret to defeating Sasuke. Rating: **1/2

Ghost in the Shell episode 13: This episode was nonsense for the most part. All kinds of action yet none of it really making much sense. Why was that girl being arrested again? What did she do wrong? What did her mother have to do with it? All these questions, no answers. If it wasn’t for Tachikoma, I’d stop watching already. Rating: *1/2

Best episode of the week: Attack on Titan

Most surprisingly good episode of the week: Attack on Titan
