Toonami Roundup: 4/15/17

toonami-2016

This week… in… Toonami…

Dragon Ball Super episode 14: How’s this for anticlimactic? Goku fails to beat Beerus, but Beerus falls asleep, so he’s going to forget the whole thing even happened. I realize it’s supposed to be funny, but it makes me feel as if the whole battle was a waste of time. Rating: **

Dragon Ball Z Kai episode 113: Half the episode is simply Videl eating a Sensu Bean and others trying to stop her from doing so. The other half is Gohan getting beat up by Spopovitch & pals. One of the things I hate most about Dragon Ball is how these characters “know” who they can and cannot defeat before even battling them. We have the battles predetermined by perceived power levels. Imagine if that was the case in Bleach. 90% of the battles would never happen. This is just typical for Dragon Ball by this point, but it doesn’t mean I like it. Rating: *1/2

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure episodes 25-26: The second arc has come to a close. Jojo finds a way to defeat Kars: blast him into space. He also finds a way to pull off the most cliched trope in fiction: showing up at your own funeral. This arc wasn’t bad, but it also didn’t blow me away the way I was supposed to be from this. Ep. 25 rating: ***, ep. 26 rating: **1/2

Hunter x Hunter episode 47: The best episode in all of Hunter x Hunter up to this point. Kurapika fights Uvogin, and he finds a way to outsmart and outgun the Phantom Troupe member. But Uvogin refuses to give Kurapika a bit of info, so he dies instantly. The only beef I have with this episode is, who did Kurapika make his contract with? Kyubey? In any case, this was a thrilling episode that brought Hunter x Hunter to the top of the mountain. Rating: ****

Naruto Shippuden episode 154: Pretty much exactly the same episode as last week. I can’t even figure out which one was which. Rating: **

Best show of the week: Hunter x Hunter

Most surprisingly good show of the week: Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, by default

Most disappointing show of the week: Dragon Ball Z Kai
