Toonami Roundup: 4/1/17

toonami-2016

This week… in Toonami…

(No Dragon Ball Super this week, due to an April Fools’ joke by Cartoon Network.)

Dragon Ball Z Kai episode 111: Videl vs. Spopovitch. Easily the best name in all of Dragon Ball (well, maybe Mr. Popo has a case to be made), Spopovitch keeps on getting beat up, and keeps on getting back up. He can even twist his head the same way Betelgeuse does in Re:Zero. But let’s be honest: this was a dull episode. Rating: **

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure episode 23: Redemption for both Wamuu and von Stroheim. Yet not even German science could make me like either of those two characters. Kars promises 1-on-1 fights on two occasions, and both times our heroes fall for the trick. Oh, and Lisa Lisa is Jojo’s mother, which is actually kind of creepy, but it’s not like he has a choice in the matter. Good action, poor execution. Rating: **1/2

Tokyo Ghoul episode 2: Coffee is the only good thing so far about this series. I will give it credit for getting a bit of direction from this episode, where Taneki found a way to rescue Hide, but there’s still a lot more work to be done to get me on board. Oh, and can we please not be so gross? Thanks. Rating: **1/2

Hunter x Hunter episode 45: Kurapika and pals take Uvogin back with them, while the Shadow Beasts get wiped out in embarrassing fashion. The Phantom Troupe is really strong, and really evil as well. Kurapika is too busy meeting with Hisoka to find out that Uvogin has made his escape, thanks to the help of his Phantom Troupe pals. Rating: ***

Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn episode 13: So much for understanding what the beep was going on over there. That’s a problem with my head; I can’t fix that. Rating: *

Naruto Shippuden episode 152: Naruto finds out that Jiraiya is dead, and much to my disappointment, he doesn’t let out a big “WHAT.” He blames Tsunade for his death. Meanwhile, Sasuke plans on destroying the whole Hidden Leaf Village. “Wipe them out… all of them.” Rating: **1/2

Ghost in the Shell episode 9: A very Durarara-esque episode. I couldn’t understand much about what was happening, as characters talked to each other in a chat room. This Laughing Man sounds like a real head case. Rating: *

Best show of the week: Hunter x Hunter

Most surprisingly good show of the week: Tokyo Ghoul

Most disappointing show of the week: Ghost in the Shell
