2017 Anime Bracket – Final Four

It’s time for the Final Four! This year we have a lot of firsts. Our first male character is in the Final Four, Kurapika. Our first Shangri-La character is here in Kuniko Hojo. An anime making its debut sent two characters to the Final Four for the first time, as Re:Zero sent both Rem and Priscilla Barielle. In fact, all four characters are making their first appearance in the tournament, and all are in the Final Four.

Now it gets dicey – how to pick winners at this point in the game? It’s going to be hard to narrow it down. Getting this far is a real accomplishment, but it’s going to take something extra to get to the championship.

#13 Rem (Re:Zero) vs. #1 Kurapika (Hunter x Hunter)

Rem has made a Cinderella run to the Final Four, on a journey that no one could have expected. Kurapika was obviously a much less surprising pick; everyone knows that I love Kurapika and purposely gave him the #1 seed so he could go far. These characters don’t have much in common, so it’s hard to decide between the two. Rem starts out as a bit character, then turns into a main character, before fading away at the end. Kurapika starts out as a main character, fades into the background for a while, then becomes the star of the show for a while, before falling off the face of the earth. I’m making this pick based on who I think is overall more entertaining as a character, and that pick is…

Winner: Kurapika

#12 Priscilla Barielle (Re:Zero) vs. #5 Kuniko Hojo (Shangri-La)

Priscilla is my favorite Re:Zero character, but she is a bit character, you know. That’s as opposed to Kuniko, who’s the main character of Shangri-La and in almost every scene. But when it comes to the Anime Bracket, you can throw out those things. It all comes down to who I like better. Kuniko is definitely the better person of the two; in fact, there’s no comparison there. Priscilla is sort of a villain, while Kuniko is the heroine. But who do I like better? Ultimately, I’m going with…

Winner: Kuniko

Yeah, that’s it – the championship match will be Kurapika vs. Kuniko! Stay tuned Monday to find out who the champion of this year’s Anime Bracket is, as well as the winner of the bracket contest!

Toonami Therapy – Episode 5

Toonami Therapy Episode 5

In case you didn’t know, we do a podcast here which I used to call “Toonami Therapy” because it was my way of letting out all my frustrations after hearing Dragon Ball Z screaming and Sword Art Online deus ex machina-ing. Now that’s the actual name of the podcast, which we’re slowly putting together a successful run of episodes. Can we get to episode 7 without a schedule snag? That’s the big question, as Tekko looms.
